People can be surprised by the idea that psychotherapy is work. They can see it as something lighter than work, surely talking can’t be work? It can take time to appreciate the kind of work that this is. For example, It takes work to understand why it is someone repeatedly gets themselves caught up in habits that have an increasingly destructive effect upon their life. It takes work to break those destructive patterns, and to bring a more creative way of living to light.
It may be that you have the sense that something about your life needs to change, it may be hard to put this into words at first. But there are ways of working that can help pursue that sense.
