People can have an idea that a psychotherapist or counsellor will quickly make inspirational interpretations of their situation and that their lives will be changed very quickly. I think this is unrealistic.
What is possible is that through working with a therapist or counsellor you may develop a sense of trust and confidence in them and so be able to develop a therapeutic relationship.
In time, this work may enable you to explore your situation further, and so assist you to start to make links between your memories, thoughts and feelings.
You may find that by doing this you develop an interest and confidence in working on the things that bother you about your life, and that doing this improves your situation.
