Psychotherapy is a way of developing a safe and confidential relationship aimed at understanding and improving psychological health. It aims at bringing relief to problematic subjects, and experiences of suffering. A psychotherapist will have trained in particular theories and practice. Theory and previous experience work as guides and help us find a way of understanding and relating. In the end though, all psychotherapy is unique. It develops out of particular relationships, and as such the therapy has to go beyond old theory and develop a meaningful understanding in the present. The aim is not just to bring insight as to how we live, it’s aim is to reach beyond that and to help establish new meaningful creative possibilities in the present.
